Sixth Annual Conference

Get Ready! Get Set! Let's Go!

We still have a few seats available for our Conference. We plan to make this year's the best ever. Please join us if you can. Besides listening to our speaker's presentations, our conferences are a great way to meet other FALDP members and learn how others run their businesses. More than one FALDP member has learned something or met someone at a conference that completely changed their thinking and their business model.

The Sixth Annual FALDP Conference is scheduled for Saturday September 19 in Daytona Beach, Florida at the Fountain Beach Resort. The accommodations cost $59 per night for best ocean view; and $49 per night for ocean view. The conference registration form is on the site. Once you register for the conference you'll receive the discount codes for accommodations and a conference confirmation. The conference fee is $75; new membership with conference fee is $130.

Information is updated frequently - so please check back for more detailed information as we get closer to the conference date. (September 19). This year's conference promises to be the best ever!

Please Note: We do require payment in advance. Please submit payment online. The paypal payment feature appears after you complete the registration form.

Conference attendees will have their membership renewal for 2016 waived. Yes, you read that correctly ... attend this year's conference, and you will not need to pay a renewal fee in June 2016.


FALDP LDP Certification - Updated

The main purpose of the certification process is to elevate the standards in our industry. We hope to encourage greater credibility for our members. FALDP members having chosen to be members and also becoming certified as legal document preparers will show the world that each of you is serious about your profession and invested in doing the best possible job for your customers.

FALDP members who seek certification must demonstrate knowledge of and mastery of basic skills including:

  • Understanding legal terminology;
  • Understanding the rules surrounding the unauthorized practice of law;
  • Understanding of business ethics; best practices; and customer service;
  • Above average proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Members may demonstrate their knowledge and mastery of the information and skills by passing a written test; passing an oral test; and submitting written essay(s).


    In addition to demonstrating mastery of basic knowledge and skills members must also demonstrate knowledge and mastery of at least one focus area. At this time we recognize the following three focus areas:

  • Family law document preparation;
  • Immigration document preparation;
  • Probate & Estates - Summary Administration of Estate; Wills; Living Trusts
  • Business - Corporations and Limited Liability Companies; Landlord/Tenant; Small Claims to Circuit Civil
    Criminal - Early Termination of Probation; Expunge & Seal;
  • Restoration of Civil Rights
  • Bankruptcy petition preparation.


  • Members can demonstrate mastery and knowledge of a focus area by passing a written test.

    In addition to completing the requirements for the Basic Skills and Knowledge component; and the Focus Area component; certification requires ten CEUs per year. There are multiple ways to fulfill the CEU requirement:

  • Completing online FALDP courses; [each course is assigned a CEU value of 1-4]
  • Participation in FALDP webinars; [each webinar is valued at 1 CEU]
  • Attendance at the Annual FALDP Conference; [ attendance is valued at 5 CEUs
  • Submitting essays suitable for FALDP site content or guest blog; [CEU value varies depending on length, suitability, and complexity]
  • FALDP Ambassador activities [CEU value varies]
  • Locating, preparing, providing, and sharing form templates for other FALDP members general use;[CEU value varies]
  • Mentoring other FALDP members [1 CEU per hour]
  • Related outreach and educational participation outside of FALDP [CEU value to be determined on case by case basis]
  • Related outreach and educational participation within FALDP for the benefit of other members, which could include course creation; translations; and other activities which a member may propose.


  • There is no cost to FALDP Certification at this time. Exams will be free and online. Study materials will be made available in October/ November. Exams will be available in February/ March.


    LDP Certification Elsewhere

    California ~ Legal Document Assistant (LDA)

    The basic requirements to be an LDA are: To be eligible to apply for registration under this chapter as a legal document assistant, the applicant shall possess at least one of the following:

    1. A high school diploma or general equivalency diploma, and either a minimum of two years of law-related experience under the supervision of a licensed attorney, or a minimum of two years experience, prior to January 1, 1999, providing self-help service.
    2. A baccalaureate degree in any field and either a minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision of a licensed attorney, or a minimum of one year of experience, prior to January 1, 1999, providing self-help service.
    3. A certificate of completion from a paralegal program that is institutionally accredited but not approved by the American Bar Association, that requires successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester units, or the equivalent, in legal specialization courses. 4. A certificate of completion from a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association.

    The fees for registering are $175.00 in each county of registration. Registration is for two years.

    Washington State: Limited License Legal Technician (LLLT)

    E. Licensing Requirements. In order to be licensed as a Limited License Legal Technician, all applicants must:

    (1) Examination. Take and pass the examinations required under these rules;

    (2) Experience. Acquire 3,000 hours of substantive law-related work experience supervised by a licensed lawyer. The experience must be acquired no more than three years prior to licensure and no more than three years after passing the examination;

    (3) Annual License Fee. Pay the annual license fee;

    (4) Financial Responsibility. Show proof of ability to respond in damages resulting from his or her acts or omissions in the performance of services permitted by this rules. The proof of financial responsibility shall be in such form and in such amount as the Board may by regulation prescribe; and

    (5) Meet all other licensing requirements set forth in the rules and regulations proposed by the Board and adopted by the Supreme Court.

    LLLT Education Requirements:

  • An associate level degree
  • 45 credits of core education requirements in legal studies at an ABA-approved law school or ABA-approved paralegal program
  • Practice area courses in each practice area in which the applicant wishes to be licensed (currently these courses are in the area of Family Law)


  • LLLT Family Law Program Tuition

  • Tuition for the 2015-2016 Family Law LLLT Program will be $250 per credit
  • Each 5-credit Family Law course will cost $1,250, not including university fees. Tuition in the amount of $1,250 is due by the first day of class.

    Even after diligent effort I was unable to find the amount for the annual fee for LLLTs.

    Arizona Certification - (LDP) Arizona Legal Document Preparers are regulated by the Arizona Bar Association.

    3. Individual Standard Certification.

    a. Fingerprinting. Pursuant to A.R.S. § 12-102 and ACJA § 7-201(E), an applicant shall furnish fingerprints for a criminal background investigation.

    b. Eligibility for Individual Certification. Except for applicants subject to the provisions of subsections (E)(3) (c) or (G)(3) the board shall grant a standard individual certificate to an applicant who possesses the following qualifications:

    (1) A citizen or legal resident of the United States;

    (2) At least eighteen years of age;

    (3) Of good moral character;

    (4) Complies with the laws, court rules, and orders adopted by the supreme court governing legal document preparers in this state; and
    (5) The applicant has successfully passed the legal document preparer examination.

    (6) The applicant shall also possess one of the following combinations of education or experience:

    (a) A high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma evidencing the passing of the general education development test and a minimum of two years of law-related experience in one or a combination of the following situations: (i) Under the supervision of a licensed attorney; (ii) Providing services in preparation of legal documents prior to July 1, 2003; (iii) Under the supervision of a certified legal document preparer after July 1, 2003; or (iv)As a court employee;

    (b) A four-year bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of law-related experience in one or a combination of the following situations: (i) Under the supervision of a licensed attorney; (ii) Providing services in preparation of legal documents prior to July 1, 2003; (iii) Under the supervision of a certified legal document preparer after July 1, 2003; or (iv)As a court employee;

    (c) A certificate of completion from a paralegal or legal assistant program approved by the American Bar Association;

    (d) A certificate of completion from a paralegal or legal assistant program that is institutionally accredited but not approved by the American Bar Association, and that requires successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester units, or the equivalent, in legal specialization courses;

    (e) A certificate of completion from an accredited educational program designed specifically to qualify a person for certification as a legal document preparer under this section;

    (f) A degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association; or

    (g) A degree from a law school that is institutionally accredited but not approved by the American Bar Association. . Any applicant for certification who has been disbarred by the highest court in any state, and who has not been reinstated, or who has been denied admission to the practice of law in Arizona, is subject to the additional requirements specified in subsection (E)(4).

    K. Fee Schedule.

    1. Standard Certification Fees a. Individual Certification for Two Year Certification Period $650.00

    (1) For certification expiring more than one year after application date $650.00

    (2) For certification expiring less than one year after application date $325.00

We exclude Miami-Dade because of their local form requirement, and the difficulty in serving consumers virtually there.
