This free newsletter is published every month for the benefit of FALDP members, legal document preparers, and friends. We hope it is informative, useful, and entertaining.
Many announcements will be published here first - and then added to the site.
New members please remember to submit the information for the Member Directory as soon as you can. We send out an email with - Welcome to FALDP - in the subject line as soon as your membership is approved. That email contains instructions on submitting your information for the member directory. If you need help, just call or email. Premium Members are entitled to three listings - their home county, and two adjacent counties. We prefer a paragraph or two for the Member Directory -- the Meet the Members page is designed to accommodate more detailed information. The Member Directory and the Meet the Members pages are how we refer customers to you. If you have not completed the information for the directories, you are missing out and leaving money on the table.
UPL Summit - Webinar

We're hosting another Members Only UPL Summit Webinar tomorrow (Saturday 6/16) at 11:00 Eastern Standard Time. We are dedicated to providing advanced and affordable estate planning documents that are state specific and up-to-date. Since we are not attorneys, we do not provide legal advice.
After years of witnessing people lose control of their family’s assets due to fraud, accident, illness, incapacity and again at death (Probate), James formed a system to educate people by providing information and documents to create solutions that allow families to control, protect, and distribute their estate. He saw the need for a company that would provide a straight forward estate planning process that is quick, convenient and affordable.
We also address the estate planning concerns for special needs children, charities and the establishment of endowments. Our goal is to ensure the best solution for our clients in addressing their estate planning needs.
Guest Speaker, Joey Morales, Bio
Joey Morales became involved with the credit repair industry about 10 years ago while living in South Florida. He moved to the Jacksonville area and, in 2008, was introduced to Credit Justice Services, whose founder and CEO, Douglas Muir, had implemented a program focused on protecting the rights of consumers through adherence to all of the credit reporting laws and regulations. Since 2008, Joey and his team, have helped many individuals and families to achieve their credit related goals. Joey has assisted mortgage brokers to convert credit denials into credit approvals, and has helped real estate agents by referring buyers who are able to qualify for financing.
Joseph L. Delgado, Guest Speaker, Bio
For nearly 30 years, Mr. Delgado has been a staunch advocate for citizens’ right of self-representation and access to the courts. He fervently believes that our legal system -- courts, judges, and the Rule of Law -- should not be the sole domain of attorneys. Delgado believes, as did our founding fathers, that American jurisprudence was intended for the benefit of, by, and for The People.
In 1992, while living in Hawaii, Delgado galvanized the support of thousands of citizens and successfully killed the State’s first attempt to criminalize the unlicensed practice of law (UPL) statute.
In 2007, taking his self-litigant rights interests to the next level, Delgado launched, founded and became the Executive Director for People United for Legal System Equality (P.U.L.S.E.), a tax-exempt organization advocating for the fair and equal treatment of pro se litigants. His Pledge of Solidarity for self-litigants is seeking signatures of support from like-minded individuals.

Online Bankruptcy Course Launched 4/28
The launch of our newest course - Introduction to Chapter 7 Bankruptcy - coincides with a Webinar about Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. The Webinar will be on Saturday April 28 at 11:00 - invitations will be emailed to all members. We will open enrollment for the bankruptcy course directly after the webinar.
An Introductory course - Introduction to Florida Legal Document Preparation @ only $99. for preparing legal documents in Florida, and Preparing Florida Divorce Documents @ only $199. are open for registration.
Registration is open for the Intro course, and the Divorce course. The courses are geared toward legal document preparers who are new to the industry; new to Florida; or legal document preparers who want to expand their knowledge base. For LDP's new to the industry, or new to Florida, the Intro course is a requirement and a prerequisite for enrollment in the Dissolution of Marriage course.

Self-Help Legal Guides
Don't forget that we publish Self Help Legal Guides. These are useful tools to provide to customers as loss leaders or to help educate consumers. Some consumers are perfectly able to prepare their own documents and all they need is to do their research and educate themselves thoroughly.
When a consumer calls in the FALDP with a situation that is addressed in one of our books, we sometimes suggest they purchase the book instead of using our document preparation services. Here's why - if a consumer is almost there and just needs a little help, the book may be all they need. It seems more honest to let them know we publish a book on their subject than to take their hard earned money for something they can do themselves. As we all know, however, pro se forms aren't as easy as they are meant to be. And many people cannot do the pro se forms no matter what - book or no book.
I often offer the book as an alternative, and then tell the customer, that if they still need document preparation assistance, we can rebate to them the price of the book. If you would like to sell our books from your site or store, please contact us to make arrangements. We no longer offer an across the board 50% discount to members -- but we'll be happy to make arrangements individually.

A business owner, Ruth McMillin aka Cricket McMillin, contacted one of our members through his craigslist ad for legal document preparation. McMillin attempted to recruit our member to do legal document preparation for their company, Paralegal Temps. Their company prepares documents for customers all over the country. I spoke with McMillin who explained that they pay $50 per document package and the document preparer is expected to search out their own documents regardless of the state. It sounded like an awful lot of work for $50. Maybe I'm lazy, but I would rather work smart than work hard. I also asked what their position is about UPL, and she told me that they always explain that they are not attorneys, etc. (This type of disclaimer is not always good enough, think Georgia, North Carolina, or Alabama).
The name of the company rang a bell for me, and I remembered that one of our members had subcontracted from a company and not been paid. Sure enough - same person, same company. Their is another company name, supposedly the parent company, Legal Aid Document Services, Inc.
And another ...
There is nothing inherently wrong with www.wethepeopleusa.com at all. They may try to recruit you to advertise with them. We turned them down for two reasons. First, the price point of $199. per month to have a line listing on their site is, well, ouch! Second, We The People may not have the best reputation in Florida. We the People of Sarasota was sanctioned by the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida Bar for UPL violations.

We accept member's announcements and appreciate your contributions. If you have an announcement about your business, an expansion of services, moving your offices, or winning awards, please send us the information and we'll include it in our newsletter. Your announcement needs to be pertinent to your business, we are unable to include announcements about other trade associations, clubs or groups.

On 6/12/2012 our site traffic hit a new high - with 326 unique hits, and 496 total visits - in one day. We only occasionally use adwords or any type of pay per click service. Almost all of our traffic is completely organic. More traffic for www.faldp.org, means more business for you. Please link your site to www.faldp.org. The more high quality links, the better for our site reputation.
