Members and Friends
This free newsletter is published every month for the benefit of FALDP members, legal document preparers, and friends.
Welcome New Members!
Each January we hold a membership drive. We are pleased to welcome twelve new members - and welcome back two returning members. Our influence grows along with our members. FALDP is nothing without you.Thank you all for your membership and participation.
We want to make sure new members know, and also remind our long time members that we foster a culture of collaboration within FALDP. Yes, sometimes we compete with one another, but at the same time we are all members of a group larger than the sum of its parts. If any member needs help with a project, or has a question I can answer, I'm happy to help. When I don't know the answer, but I know another member might know, I'll suggest who to contact. Each of us has knowledge and experience that may help another. Share freely with one another. You may need that member's help next time. Please be helpful and considerate towards your fellow members. We are colleagues and are all in this together serving pro se litigants
against extreme odds.
Webinar ~ March 21 @ 11:00
Invitations have been sent to all members for our upcoming webinar on March 21st. If you are a member, and did not receive your invitation, please check your spam box, and if you still did not receive it, please let us know. Reminders will go out one week in advance, three days in advance, and one hour in advance.
We do not record webinars for two reasons. First, people do not speak as freely as they might when they know they are being recorded. Our webinars are members only, except for this type - UPL Summit - in which we invite document preparers from other states who we know; and friends of FALDP. The second reason we don't record, is that "showing up is half of life" and if its important, you'll find a way to attend. We do, however, recognize that schedules conflict, and it is on a Saturday. Any member who cannot attend but would like the webinar hand-outs only needs to ask, and we'll send them.
The webinar is: "UPL Summit - Rules,
Claims, & Investigations" SEE YOU THERE!
Family Law Lead Program
We are continuing to improve our family law lead program. And are now offering geographic based family law leads. Members can choose a single county or designate a cluster of counties and leads will be forwarded in rotation. Bear in mind, that limiting your leads geographically may also limit the rate at which you'll receive leads. The $30 Sample Pack (3 leads for $10 - one time purchase) is not available for geographic based leads; only for statewide leads. The geographic based leads are only sorted by county NOT by zip codes.
These are general family law leads, including child support, alimony, and custody modifications; divorces; paternity; disestablishment of paternity; family adoption; name change; temporary custody; and motion for contempt and enforcement.
These leads are sent to FALDP as exclusive real time leads. Contacting the customer as quickly as possible is key to making sales. If you want to participate, plan to contact
the customer within an hour or less, the sooner the better. The base cost for each lead is $17. and we are now offering quantity discounts so you can maximize the return on your investment. Once you pay for leads, you'll immediately be added to the rotation.Sample Set - One Time Only Purchase - Set of Three Leads for $30.(Not Available for Geographic Based Leads
We are offering the Sample Set to give you a taste
of these leads at low cost. The Sample Set is available as a one time only purchase - for subsequent lead purchases the price structure is as follows:
5 leads @ $17 for $85;
10 leads @ $16 for $160
20 leads @ $15 for $300
Complete information is available on our site -
Family Law Lead Program Page.
We are fine tuning the key words to optimize our target audience. In doing so, at least for the time being, we are sacrificing volume for quality. In short, the lead flow has slowed down, while we're elevating the lead quality.
Access to Justice Commission
On Wednesday March 11, I listened to the conference call for the Florida Commission on Access to Justice. Other members were able to join the call also, and I have heard comments from a few. I was not able to listen to Thursday or Friday's conference call.
The Florida Commission on Access to Justice states the following on their website:
Florida Access to Justice Commission
"Responding to the unmet legal needs of low- and moderate-income Floridians"
"The Florida Commission on Access to Civil Justice will study the unmet civil legal needs of disadvantaged, low-income, and moderate-income Floridians, considering Florida’s legal assistance delivery system as a whole: staffed legal aid programs, pro bono services, innovative technology solutions, and other models and potential innovations. The commission will create strong collaboration among all groups seeking to improve access to civil justice and a heightened awareness of the needs of Florida’s citizens..."
Among other things discussed on Wednesday's conference call, which focused on technology, the committee is creating a list of resources available to pro se litigants.
Please visit the following sites, and assess them for yourself. Resources identified:
http://www.srln.org/ - National Self Represented Litigants Network
http://www.lsc.gov/ - Federal Legal Services Corporation
http://www.avvo.com/- Avvo is a site for private attorneys to answer consumer questions. A consumer can pay $39 and receive a 15 minute consultation with an attorney. I learned that the attorney receives $10 of that $39; and that 20% of Florida attorneys are signed up with Avvo. Fee sharing anyone?
Legal document preparers were never mentioned except when one of the panel members mentioned Legal Zoom. I contacted the commission a few weeks ago, volunteering our resources as a partial solution to pro se access to the legal system. My initial email to them; and their reply is in the last newsletter, February 2015. In my opinion, the committee has a lot of work to do. They seem to be starting at way below zero in their understanding of how to assist pro se litigants. We know so much more.
I scheduled an Ambassador Conference Call for Friday 3/20 at 3:00 pm. (I apologize for the short notice.) I want to brain storm about our own outreach efforts that dove tail with the goals of the state committee.
Shark Tank Fans
Shark Tank Fans! We received the following message from Patrick Ambron, Co-Founder and CEO of BrandYourself:
"We are extremely excited to announce that BrandYourself will be featured on ABC's Shark Tank on Friday, March 20th at 9/8c! Shark Tank pits top companies and entrepreneurs seeking an investment against a panel of wealthy investors, or sharks. It can reach up to 8 million viewers per episode."
FALDP includes BrandYourself as a feature of our online course - Post Conviction Doc Prep. The state of Florida no longer sells mugshots to the likes of mugshots.com (thank goodness!); however BrandYourself is a great tool for anyone to maximize their online profile. Google yourself and see how the internet sees you.
Every January we offer membership for only $37.50. Members who join in January must also renew in the same year. All memberships renew on June 1. Every year there are a few members who join in January at half price ($37.50) and are then upset when they realize that they have to renew in June. We have always had this policy, membership fees are not pro-rated, never have been, and we have no plans to pro-rate them.
Annual membership is back to $75. and will stay at that point for new members. New members who join in February or March pay $75; and need to renew June 1. No one is dropped from the roster for non-renewal until the last week of July. New members who join in April or May will not need to renew the same year on June 1; instead renewal is not required until the following year.
Google Map Update
Julian is in the process of updating the google map at the top of the Member Directory. He may call you to verify information if something is lacking. He works from the Master Roster. Long time members may need to update their information. Julian is also in charge of the Gorilla Marketing; or internet marketing program. If you have questions about it, Julian is the one to ask.

I'm taking suggestions for the location for our 2015 Conference. Last year we held the conference in Daytona Beach and we try to alternate our locations from coast to coast. If anyone has a suggestion for west coast Florida, please let me know. Inland is not out of the question, as long as there is plenty to do for family members that might be brought along. So far, on the west coast we've held a conference in Venice, and one in Cedar Key. We like to host conferences in out of the way places that are not too expensive, and not in the midst of tourist season for that area. Our conferences are always held in September or October. Please let me know if you have suggestions, and if you have an in with a resort or venue, it would be very helpful.
Member's Announcements & Contributions
Sad news. Ron Boland, my friend, colleague, and long time member of FALDP passed away recently. He suffered a stroke and died a few days later. His wife, Judy, wrote and told me the sad news, and said: "His energy is now part of the universe." Ron joined FALDP days before our first annual conference, and attended every conference after that. Judy almost always accompanied him, sitting in as his guest. At the second annual conference in Venice, Judy, Ron, and Julian, conspiring at the back of the class came up with the idea for "Meet the Members" pages on our site. Their idea was to give more information about each member with a scan of their business card, and a picture of the member. We immediately adopted the idea, which later evolved into Member's Mini-Pages. Ron was always helpful and generous with his time. We already miss him.
If anyone would like to donate any amount, I will forward your donation to Judy, for her to donate to Ron's favorite cause or
